National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) was formed on 6th  February 1965 at National College, Dhantoli, Nagpur, in co-operation with Shri Chamanlal Bhardwaj, from Delhi, the leader of the Punjab National Bank Employees Association who was already dissatisfied on different grounds with the AIBEA, as the first President, along with Shri Gajananrao Gokhale of Bombay as Vice President, Shri B G Gour as first General Secretary, Shri A M Puranik from Canara Bank Nagpur as Joint Secretary, Shri B K Lothey Nagpur as Treasurer,  Shri K Devidas Pai of Canara Bank Bangalore, Shri A H Deodhar, Bombay, Shri Dharmvirjit Kwatra, Panipat and Shri A N Shukla, Kanpur as Zonal Secretaries. In the above process it became clear that the AIBEA leadership considers Nationalists as their enemy, they want to eliminate the nationalists from holding any important office in AIBEA, if the above objective cannot be ensured by democratic means, they adopt totalitarian tactics and the imposition of the Communists political line over AIBEA is done in such a manner that the mass of employees, who are kept in dark, should not be disturbed from their sleeping faith and they should continue to finance and support the communist leadership. It is proved beyond doubt that AIBEA is a communist organisation and it uses the Bank employees’ power and money to achieve communist ends which are; to destroy country’s democratic traditions and faith; to keep employees ignorant by methods of controlled propaganda and press; to eliminate patriots from top union positions: to popularize communists slogans; to oppose all democratic practices in Trade unionism; to belittle nationalism vis-a vis world class-struggle- politics of international communist line; to destroy democratic faiths in judiciary etc. by faulty pleadings; and to use Bank employees as a cannon-fodder for politics of the communist party of India. Earlier the common Bank employees understand the subtlety of communist diplomacy- the better will be the days for Nation, the Industry and the Labour.

With this Nationalistic approach our beloved NOBW started its journey on 6th February 1965 from Nagpur. It was in 1969 that NOBW was affiliated to BMS. You may ask why NOBW chose BMS out of many Central trade unions powerfully operating then. Well, the BMS works on national spirits and democratic principles which are dear to us. Its decision/ policy making process is a two way process.                                                                             `

It is a worker to leader i.e. bottom to top and not leader to worker i. e. imposition from top. BMS is the only Central trade union which preaches and practices patriotism oriented trade union philosophy. The fount of inspiration for BMS is within the Nation and not beyond the frontiers. BMS is the only Central trade union which is not blindly tied to any “ISM” except pragmatism i.e. down to earth practicalism. BMS is the only Central trade union which refused to be tagged to any political party. On the contrary, BMS wants the labour movement of the country dominate and control politicians and political parties. Such idea and idealism of BMS has attracted NOBW. It is call of the time: the Bank employees shall usher in a new era of trade union movement wherein their collective thinking, actions, aspirations and involvement shall find expression through their cherished democratic trade union struggles under the banner of NOBW.As a result, NOBW units were started in Punjab National Bank, Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank, Vijaya Bank, Corporation Bank, Reserve Bank Of India, Bank Of Maharashtra and United Western Bank.
